DP Limits — What DP Cannot Do
DP depends on
• Available thrust and power margin.
• Quality and reliability of position references/sensors.
• Environmental forces (wind/current/sea state).
• Vessel hydrodynamics (how thrust becomes motion).
Signs you are approaching limits
• Thrusters working harder with little improvement.
• Rapid heading/position corrections (“hunting”).
• High power demand and reduced control feel.
